Family Fitness

The YMCA Health and Wellness programs are developmentally appropriate and help people at any stage of life build positive health habits. Participation in YMCA programs offers youth and adults opportunities for friendship and community, a sense of well-being, increased self-confidence and improved mental abilities. YMCA programs and services cut across diverse populations with diverse needs and attempt to take into account the total health of each person.

The YMCA provides a variety of Health and Wellness programs, including fitness classes for individuals and families of all ages, health and wellness seminars, educational classes, personalized training programs, noncompetitive youth sports leagues, and social opportunities for seniors and families.

Personal Training

(Members Only Program) One-on-one customized training including cardio training or sports injury training. Our Personal Trainers are specially trained to help meet your specific goals. Schedule your session at the Welcome Center.

8 Sessions: $350

Group Exercise Classes

We offer a variety of classes, such as Zumba, Step, Spin Cycling, Circuit Training, Pilates, Yoga and SilverSneakers®, to name a few. From our Kid's Fitness Classes to our Active Older Adults Programs to our Teen Strength & Conditioning Classes, all classes are designed to help you work at your own pace while having fun, getting fit and making new friends. Please pick up a schedule at the Welcome Center.

Cycling: Our format simulates an all-terrain bike ride that challenges both your cardiovascular and muscular endurance. These classes are great for any skill level from beginners to advanced because our instructors guide you in choosing your settings You go at your own pace and enjoy great music while your ride! It's one of the best cardio exercises out there! Tips for Spinning:

  • If you are new to spinning, please inform the instructor before class so that they can help you with proper seat height, seat distance and handlebar adjustments.
  • The knee should not be hyper-extended when the leg is straight and not more than a 90-degree angle flex when the thigh is parallel to the floor.
  • The seat distance should be adjusted so upper body is not flexed too far forward.
  • The handles should be even to, or slightly higher than, the seat for newcomers.

Silver Sneakers® Yoga Stretch: This class will move your whole body through a complete series of seated and standing yoga stretches. Chair support is offered to safely perform a variety of postures designed to increase flexibility, balance and range of motion. Restorative breathing exercises and a final relaxation will promote stress reduction and mental clarity.

Cardio Classics: You'll have the time of your life when we pull out your favorite classic cardio moves with some of your favorite classic music.

Low Impact Aerobics: A cardiovascular workout followed by total body conditioning designed to increase endurance, strength, tone and circulation.

Strength & Stability: Basic to Intense strength training for upper and lower body. Every fitness level welcome.

Zumba: Ditch the workout and join the party! This is a Latin based aerobic class. Dance your way to a fitter you with exciting Latin moves and rhythms. No dance experience needed. Fun for all!

Pilates: This class teaches awareness of breath and alignment of the spine, and aims to strengthen the deep torso muscles.

Body Pump: This class works every major muscle group with weighted bars & motivating music.

Pilates and Yoga Combo: Designed for all fitness levels, this class encourages balance in the body through developing both strength and flexibility.

Silver Sneakers® I:
Have fun and move to the music through a variety of low-impact exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement, and activity for daily living skills. Hand-held weights, elastic tubing, and exercise balls are used for resistance and chairs are used for seated and standing support.

Silver Sneakers® II Cardio Circuit:
This is a format includes standing low-impact choreography designed to increase cardiovascular and muscular endurance alternated with standing and upper body strength work with hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles and a ball.

Teen Strength & Conditioning:
This program is designed to keep junior high and high school athletes in tip-top shape during the summer break. It targets improvements in strength, speed, agility, nutrition and sportsmanship.

Kids Fitness:
For ages 6-12, under 6 with parent. Classes range from kickboxing, bootcamp and Zumba to pilates and yoga. Best of all, these classes are FREE to all children with Student memberships or that are listed as dependents
on membership.

Ab Lab:
This is a 30-minute workout focusing only on your Abs!

Step:
A predominantly low-impact activity which involves stepping up and down on a platform while performing creative movements.

Tips for Group Exercise Participants

  • Please arrive on time.
  • Please turn cell phones off. Do not talk on your cell phones while in class. You will be asked to excuse yourself until you are finished with your call.
  • Please keep conversation to a minimum during classes so that instruction can be heard by other students.
  • Items needed: water bottle and towel.
  • Athletic shoes or spinning shoes required in ALL cardio classes.
  • Yoga & Pilates are barefoot for your safety so that you do not slide and your feet can properly grip the flooring.
  • Children ages 12+ may participate in group exercise classes unless otherwise noted.
  • Children must be able to participate without disruptive behavior.
  • Children ages 14+ may attend spinning classes.
  • Intensity options will be given to modify for all levels of experience.
  • Correct workout/training gear must be worn.

Boot Camp

Challenge your spirit, mind and body at one of our YMCA boot Camps. Boot Camp is a comprehensive basic training class and consists of pushups, jumping jacks, squats, plyometrics, body resistance training and running. If you are looking for a challenge, this is the class for you! The December Boot Camps run for 2 weeks and are Monday through Friday only. The February Boot Camp is every Tuesday Thursday for 6 weeks.

Dec 7-18, Mon-Fri - 7:15pm ($80 for 10 sessions)

Feb 2 & 4, 9 & 11, 16 & 18, 23 & 25, March 2 & 4, 9 & 11 - 7:15pm ($90 for 12 sessions)

Healthy Holiday Challenge

Starts Nov 27 through Jan 8. Bring a friend to join us as we make the holiday a healthy one! Free sessions with wellness coaches, body fat analysis and much more for the entire Baytown community! Plus, we will be giving away great prizes this entire holiday season.

ACTIVE OLDER ADULTS

In addition to fitness programs designed specifically for our Active Older Adults, we offer a number of social activities to meet the needs of our members including Book Clubs, Knitting Clubs, field trips and monthly socials.

Fee: A small fee will be charged to cover the cost of the tour. (Lunch is on your own at the restaurant chosen for the outing.) Our AOA group will head out for a trip in the surrounding area.
