I would like to thank you for choosing the Galveston Family YMCA for your membership and programs.
At the YMCA, we strive to meet the needs of everyone. We are in the business of building and transforming lives. The YMCA builds strong kids, strong families, and strong communities every day.
The staff at your YMCA is here to serve you. At the YMCA, we are more than just a place to exercise. Our continuing mission, “To put Judeo-Christian principles into practice through programs that build a healthy spirit, mind and body for all,” makes the YMCA a place where everyone can belong.
At the Galveston Family YMCA, members will experience programs for everyone, opportunities to get involved, reduce stress, and opportunity to feel and look better, a place to have fun, and opportunity to meet new friends, develop new relationships, and a place to learn about a healthy lifestyle.
Jami Huygens,
Executive Director
Membership to the YMCA
The YMCA believes that we all need a place to belong. When you become a member of the YMCA, you will find programs and activities for every member of the family.
Members can be part of the broader YMCA mission by working together to solve local problems, reaching out to others, volunteering, or fundraising. Belonging to the YMCA gives members an opportunity to strengthen themselves, their families, and their communities.
The YMCA offers memberships to families, as well as great membership options for individuals, single-parent families, seniors, and youth. All options feature easy payment plans and no contracts. The City-wide option lets members participate at any YMCA in the Greater Houston area. These memberships include full use of the facility, free fitness classes, reduced fees on programs and much more.
The YMCA is a membership organization and therefore all participants must be members.
You have three options in your membership to the YMCA:
Facility Membership
Facility Membership is designed for those individuals or families who wish to have facility use. A monthly membership is paid to the YMCA. Facility members are also eligible for reduced fees on programs.
Program Membership
Program membership is designed for those who want to participate in programs or activities, but do not have full facility use. A yearly program membership fee is paid in addition to the fees of our programs and is renewable annually.
Greater Houston City-wide Option
Join one YMCA, and you can join them all! With a City-wide membership, you can take advantage of programs and facilities at any of our 40 branches. A complete listing of Greater Houston centers can be found on page 2.
Open Doors Scholarship Program
The YMCA is community-based and believes that its programs and services should be available to everyone regardless of age, background, ability, or income. That’s why the YMCA offers an OPEN DOORS program, a sliding fee scale that fits your individual financial situation.
Changes to Membership
As a YMCA member, you are not obligated by a contract. However, if your membership status needs to be changed for any reason, a 30-day written notice is required. Examples would be a change in membership type, changes in your banking information, or if you are moving and need to end your
member-ship (30 days prior to your
next draft).
Placing Memberships On-Hold
Members may place their membership on-hold once per year for a minimum of one month and a maximum of 3 months. Members applying for on-hold status must be approved by the Membership Director.
First Aid & Emergencies
Should you need assistance for first aid, contact any staff person or go to the Welcome Center. Please locate the emergency exits throughout the building. In case of fire, please use the closest exit to leave the building. If you have a child in ChildWatch, your child will be taken by a staff member to a safe place.
