PRESCHOOL/AFTERSCHOOL

Youth Development

Through programs that give youth and teens opportunities to gain leadership skills, core values and an ethic of service, the YMCA helps young people make wise and healthy choices. Following the Search Institute's Developmental Asset Model, all YMCA programs provide youth the building blocks necessary to become productive and caring adults. According to the Search Institute's research, the more assets young people have, the less like likely they are to engage in high-risk behaviors. Under the guidance of caring adults, youth learn fair play and positive communication and develop a spirit of cooperation - all skills that are needed to succeed.

YMCA AfterSchool (N.C.I. Workshop Accepted)

Once a child reaches school age, multiple influences enter his or her life. YMCA AfterSchool ensures that the time after school is occupied creatively and constructively. Children participate in a balanced program of open play and structured activities while being supervised by well-trained and caring staff. Children get involved in a variety of learning centers in addition to program components such as recreation, health enhancement, arts and humanities programs, nutritional snacks, service learning, character development and homework assistance.
