The YMCA has developed several activities to encourage and motivate older adults to take action and get involved. Socializing and volunteering have been shown to have positive effects on the health of older adults, and exercise has proven to promote mental agility, in addition to longevity and good health.
ACTIVE OLDER ADULTS
Monthly Trips
Every month join us on a fun-filled field trip that is sure to brighten your day! We travel all over South Texas and our group has such fun, you are guaranteed to have a blast! The trip is announced every month in our A.O.A. Herald and sign-up for the trip is two weeks prior to the trip date.
Heart Values
This unique group is recommended for anyone who has ever suffered from cardiac conditions, stroke difficulties and other high risk conditions.

AOA Fitness
This class is for those who are slightly more advanced than chair aerobics. It will involve non-impact, low-to-moderate intensity moves and, of course, a lot of fun! There is no step in this class. Muscle conditioning, abs and stretches are included.

Senior Pickleball®
Try out this awesome sport for great balance and coordination. This sport will help you build strong muscles, increase your coordination and you will have a great time doing it! Join us in the Northwest YMCA Gymnasium.

This class is great for those who are looking for a strength-building chair aerobics class. The class will focus on strength, muscle tone and posture by using tools such as a chair, resistance band and a ball.

Our morning Yoga class is great for all levels and allows you to explore the great benefits of Yoga at your own pace. You will learn the poses and modifications so that you can customize your own routine.

Dust off those dancing shoes and come join us for a great time! This class is wonderful for perfecting those dance moves and it is great exercise as well.

As an Active Older Adult you have the power to make a difference in the lives of our younger members! Ask about possible opportunities in our programs. Opportunities include: Intergenerational Activities, Story Time, Homework Help, Tutoring.
