Open Swim
Bring the whole family to enjoy your community pool. Pool will open April 12 weekends only through Oct (weather permitting). Children under 11 years must have a parent/guardian over 18 years on deck at all times. All persons subject to swim test by lifeguards, all non-swimmers will be required to be accompanied (within arm’s reach) by a swimmer over 15 years old and/or stay in shallow area at lifeguard’s discretion. One swimmer permitted on slide at a time. Non-swimmers must wear Coast Guard-approved life jacket on the slide. Schedule is subject to change due to inclement weather.

Youth & Preschool Swim Lessons
AGES 6 MOS-2 YRS: The Parent/Child Aquatics program promotes water enrichment and aquatic readiness. Parents or a trusted adult accompany their child in the pool. Swim diapers are required and are available for purchase at the Welcome Center.
PARENT/CHILD: An instructor provides guidance in how to help your child become acquainted with the water, develop coordination, balance, and social skills in the water. No class prerequisites.
AGES 3-5 YRS: The Preschool Aquatics program teaches water adjustment and basic swimming skills. These classes are held without the parent and children are placed into groups based on their abilities. Some of the instruction is done on the pool deck.
PIKE: This class is designed for the beginner who has little or no water experience. The emphasis is on basic swimming skills. No class prerequisites.
EEL: The child must be comfortable putting his/her face in the water. No class prerequisites.
RAY: Children will learn more advanced swimming skills. Prerequisites: Completion of Eel or the ability to front and back float and swim 15 feet without a flotation device.
Youth Swim Lessons
AGES 6 & UP: The Youth Aquatics program teaches personal safety, personal growth, stroke development and rescue skills. These classes are held without parents, and children are placed into groups based on their abilities. Some of the instruction is done on the pool deck.
POLLIWOG: Gradual orientation, basic swimming, personal safety, survival float and water confidence building. No prerequisites.
GUPPY: Water adjustment skills, from crawl with rhythmic breathing, introduction to backstroke, prone float and recovery, prone glide with kicking, changing directions, turning over and jumping into the deep end. Prerequisites: completion of Polliwog or be able to swim the width of the pool without assistance.
MINNOW: Mastering freestyle with rotary breathing. Increase endurance of backstroke, freestyle, and survival floats. Introduce standing dive and breaststroke. Prerequisite: completion of Guppy or be able to swim freestyle with rhythmic breathing the length of the pool without assistance.

Water Aerobics
Join in on a fun and safe workout in our pool, no swimming ability required. Aqua Fitness is great for everybody, no matter what your current physical fitness status is. You will see, among other things, improved core stability and increased aerobic capacity. Aqua Fitness is for the person who needs cross training and/or is bored with their current workout.

Lifeguarding
This certification course is designed to give participants the skills and knowledge needed to be lifeguards in the pool. The comprehensive course offers up-to-date information on how to guard, anticipate and prevent problems, and to take action to help those in danger. It also covers safety and survival skills every swimmer needs to know, accident prevention, guarding techniques, emergency systems, rescue skills and first aid in aquatic environments.
The West Orem Family YMCA is hiring lifeguards and swim instructors.
