SWIM LESSONS at the FISHERS YMCA
The YMCA has been teaching children how to be safe and skilled in the water for over 100 years! Refer to schedule in this section for all swim lessons.
Please note that unless scheduled by the YMCA, there are no make-up classes. Specialty swim classes are explained further in this section. Parent and Child Lessons
(Ages 6mos-3yrs) Promotes water enrichment and aquatic readiness. 30 minutes filled with songs and games; you and your child learn about personal safety and water adjustment. Refer to schedule in this section.
(Ages 3-5) 30 minutes. Child’s first pool experience without parents. Children are taught the building blocks of swimming and are divided into skill levels to progress individually. Bubble belts are used as aids to help the children swim safely and independently while creating feelings of accomplishment.
(Ages 6-12) 40 minutes. This is a great class to improve stroke development and work on endurance. Will help develop a lifelong interest in aquatics. Each skill level builds upon the preceding level. 5 main components: personal growth, personal safety, stroke development, water sports and games, and rescue.
Camp Enrichment Swimming Lessons
(Ages 6-12) Send your day camper! Benefit of a structured lesson while they attend camp. Focus on growth, safety, stroke development, water sports and games, and rescue. Refer to schedule in this section.

(Ages 13+) 40 minutes. It’s never too late to learn how to swim. The YMCA offers 2 levels of adult and teen swimming lessons:
Beginner: Designed to help non-swimmers feel comfortable in the water. Swimmers progress at their own pace and learn the enjoyment of water activities.
Intermediate: Designed for swimmers who feel comfortable in the shallow and deep ends of the pool and want to develop their swimming stoke.
Lessons for People with Disabilities
Designed for children and adults with special disabilities. Experienced and trained instructors specialize in this area. Please note: This is not a private lesson. Group setting will encourage participants to use their physical attributes to the best of their abilities.

(Ages 16+ only) Personal safety, emergency procedures, pool maintenance, guarding techniques and Oxygen Administration. Must have current Healthcare Provider CPR and First Aid certifications. Must be 16 years of age prior to the start date of the class and have strong swimming abilities. For certification, participant must pass a written and water test and demonstrate professional lifeguard characteristics. See the “Health & Fitness” section for CPR/First Aid classes. Open to any participant who is currently certified as a lifeguard. Healthcare Provider CPR and First Aid must be current; Oxygen Administration is included in this course. Junior Lifeguard Camp

Introduction to swimming and water safety. One week FREE program offered at all YMCA of Greater Indianapolis branches with a goal to educate children ages 6-12 about swimming as a lifetime skill. Participate in one or all four days.

For participants with arthritis, fibromyalgia, or those recovering from injury. Program is a collaborative effort of the YMCA of the USA and the Arthritis Foundation. Warmth, buoyancy and potential restrictive properties of the Program Pool water can help decrease pain and/or stiffness and improve joint flexibility. Arthritis Plus available for those who have taken Arthritis Class.

Prenatal/Postnatal Water Exercise
Join us for this program designed for low-to-moderate exercise and to strengthen key muscles stressed in child-bearing.

Group Exercise Program Member Pass
Anyone who is not a Facility Member may purchase a Group Exercise Participant Pass - a punch card for 8 separate visits to specified water and land group exercise classes. For land group exercise, pass can be used for all regularly scheduled aerobics classes (not valid for yoga, Pilates and group cycling). For water group exercise, pass can be used for all regularly scheduled water exercise classes (not valid for pre/postnatal classes).
The Group Exercise Participant Pass can be purchased at the Member Services area.
